02 Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comment form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string, to assist with spam detection.

An anonymized hash of your email address may be shared with the Gravatar service to check whether you use it. Their privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy. Once approved, your profile picture may be visible publicly alongside your comment.

03 Media

If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading files with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download and extract any location data from images published on the site.

04 Cookies

Leaving a comment allows you to opt in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies for one year, so you do not have to re-enter your details on future visits.

Visiting the login page sets a temporary cookie to detect whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close the browser.

Logging in sets cookies to store your session and display preferences. Login cookies last two days; screen option cookies last one year. Selecting “Remember Me” extends login persistence to two weeks. Logging out removes all login cookies.

Editing or publishing an article saves a cookie recording only the post ID. It contains no personal data and expires after one day.

05 Embedded Content

Articles on this site may include embedded content from other websites — such as videos, images, or articles. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited those external sites directly. Those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with the content.

06 Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell or trade your personal data. If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email as a security measure.

07 How Long We Retain Your Data

Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely, so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically.

Registered users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except their username). Site administrators can also access and edit that information.

08 Your Rights

If you have an account or have left comments, you may request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, or request that it be erased. This does not include data we are legally required to retain for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

09 Where Your Data Is Sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. No other personal data is transferred to external servers beyond what is described in this policy.
